JAKARTA - The Malaysian Police confiscated more than 365 kilograms (kg) of methamphetamine (metamphetamine) from the arrest of a man in Belat Batu Village, Beseri near Padang Besar, Sunday, June 1. The confiscated methamphetamine is estimated to be worth RM 13.14 million.
The Head of the Perak Police, Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim, said that the disclosure of this case was based on information from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Perlis Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK).
Halim explained that the arrest was made when the 40-year-old suspect got out of the Proton Waja car and headed for another car, Toyota Vios.
"The results of the examination of the Toyota Vios car found 17 bags containing drugs suspected of being methamphetamine, which are believed to have come from Thailand," he said at a press conference at the Perlis IPK, Monday, June 2, quoted from Bernama.
From the results of the initial examination, said Halim, the suspect is suspected of using a forest area in Padang Besar Regency which borders Thailand as a transit site for smuggling methamphetamine.
He added that the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine after the police conducted a urine examination of the person concerned. The suspect also has a criminal record related to drug cases.
"The suspect has been detained for seven days since June 1 (yesterday) and his case is being investigated under Article 39B of the 1952 Narcotics Law. Police are hunting for another suspect who fled to assist the investigation," he said.
