A number of teams were deployed in an effort to search for victims of the C excavation mine landslide on Mount Kuda Cirebon, West Java. Evacuation measures faced serious obstacles at the location due to several subsequent landslides.

The commander of Kodim 0620/Cirebon Regency Lt. Col. Inf. Mukhammad Yusron in Cirebon, Sunday, said that during today's search process there had been five landslides around the location on a fairly large scale.

As a result, he said, the search for victims who were still buried by landslides on Mount Kuda had to be temporarily suspended.

"Regarding this termination, we all know that during the search for victims, five landslides had occurred, the scale was quite large," he said, quoting ANTARA, Sunday, June 1.

He said the frequency of subsequent landslides was quite frequent, even on the first day the search recorded three landslides, followed by two additional landslides the following day.

According to him, unstable soil conditions made the team have to work extra carefully so that the personnel deployed at the location remained safe while carrying out their duties.

Yusron said the situation made the team must continue to be vigilant and stop search activities, especially whenever there were signs of material movement at that location.

He said that currently ground movement detection tools are needed, to monitor the conditions of the terrain in the mining area.

"So from the mining inspector team of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, it is recommended that there should be a special tool that detects ground movement," he said.

Yusron emphasized that the safety of officers remains a priority, so that the evacuation process will resume after conditions in the area are declared safe.

"We work to need safety security in carrying out this task," he said.

Until the third day of the search, he continued, two victims had been successfully evacuated after being buried by landslides.

He mentioned that with the addition, currently there are a total of 19 people who died as a result of the landslide incident on Mount Kuda.

"Six other victims are suspected of being buried by landslides," he said.

Today's search for victims involved a joint team from the TNI, Polri, Basarnas, BPBD, and a number of volunteers, who are currently on standby around the main post pending further developments.
